About Pollamus

Hi there! This is the founder of Pollamus typing! So, what is Pollamus? Pollamus is a debate and polling platform with three main goals:

  1. To discuss all types of issues with the goal of finding an actual solution to the issue
  2. To gather votes from all types of people to generate a general consensus on issues. Aiming to also show the change in the consensus over time.
  3. To allow anyone to be able to search up a topical debate and instantly find high quality discussions and, imporantly, ANSWERS and SOLUTIONS to the debates with reasoning in the comments.
  4. To get rid of incorrect information spreading and not have a platform that relies on spreading hate and false information.

At the time of writing this, the website is still new, and many, updates and features are in progress. Below, you'll find a list of planned updates and features I'd like to implement.

Why I Created Pollamus

I created Pollamus as a means to provide answers and solutions to all kinds of debates as I'm sick of hearing people discuss issues without ever finding solutions - and thus this website exists to find and visualise those solutions. Moreover Pollamus was built to tackle these controversial issues while promoting reasoning, emotional intelligence, and knowledge — without stirring unnecessary hostility that typically comes with political topics.

My dream of Pollamus is that its content is actually able to aid in a countries political decisions (a country type filter system is needed!) - using the general consensus data to gauge current public opinion as well as use the solutions people come up with to better the world of today. Below I've listed a few of the potential updates I would like to add to the site however there are still many more I would like to add. For example, I strongly agree with allowing and letting people to change their views as if not this site would be meaningless thus I also think its important that you show that your views have changed and that growth has occured. I have intended to implemet this in the site however this could defintely be expanded upon. Another, potential update not listed below involves the idea that decisions are not always 1 dimensional and often can have multiple dimensions to the issue - thus implementing some sort of graphing voting system is another needed improvement.

Lastly, I created Pollamus with the intention that its users would be able to discuss, debate and come up with solutions concerning the website in order to make the users have a degree of impact on the website with the goal of improving the website based upon user suggestions.

Planned Updates

  • Spam Moderation: Right now, I manually remove spam comments, debates, and upvotes. I plan to create a system where flagged content is moved to a separate page, where users can vote on whether it should be reinstated. (This could actually be pretty entertaining!)
  • Color-Coded Debates: Different colors will represent different debate topics or authors. This will help prevent multiple debates on the same topic and designate "official" debates, ensuring all votes are concentrated in one place.
  • Verified Users: I’m considering an optional verification system, where users can verify their identity through various methods. They’d still have usernames, but their real name would be visible on their profile, adding credibility to discussions.
  • Monetization: To keep the site running, I need to find a way to generate revenue. I could even create a special "Pollamus Debate" where users can discuss how best to monetize the platform.
  • Profile Descriptions & Comments: Users will be able to post a description about themselves, explaining their votes and changes in opinion. Additionally, I’d like to add a comment section on user profiles where others can engage with them directly about their perspectives.

So, those are just a few of the updates in the works! Now it’s time for you to jump in—start voting, debating, and shaping the future of Pollamus!

Founded in 2024

P.S. Now I'm actually in the stage of growing the website and building its user base. The aim is to completely focus on building the users and to achieve a monthly user activity of 10,000 views a month. Once I achieve that I will then redirect my work back to adding the cool and useful updates for the site, but for now I'm going to take a break from the coding (unless something breaks of course ;D)!
